Try new things.
A couple of months ago now I was looking for a course where I could learn some basic bush craft skills, with the desire to use them within my roles at The March Wood Project & Woodland therapy. This is when I came across the courses that are run by Gary at Jack Raven Bushcraft, and to my delight the one I wanted to attend was part of the Institute of Outdoor learning. This would mean that once I had done the course and passed the assessment, I would en able to get insured and incorporate certain aspects of bushcraft into my daily roles.
I chose to do the IOL foundational bushcraft competency certificate, which was set over 3 days in the woodland they use in Westwell, near Ashford, Kent.
What a great weekend full of learning new skills and laughter, whilst meeting extremely interesting people. I wasn’t sure what to expect before I got there, but I have to say the course was run professionally and competently. Gary’s skills as a teacher are great, full of patience and knowledge. I left after 3 days knowing how to start a fire by friction ( it is an epic feeling lighting your first one by this method), build a variety of survival dens, knife skills and ways of building fires. The environment is perfect for the courses, and the main area you work in is set our perfectly for the courses.
The food that is prepared each day was divine, and all of it made outside in the woodland.
I would recommend you give this company a try if you want to find some new skills, and enjoy being out in the fresh air whilst you are learning.
